The primary function of these signs is to inform the viewer of specific services that they will approach on the road. They are often displayed in groups (all of those pictured to the left have multiple signs within the single sign). Their goal is to inform the person viewing the sign that certain places to stop are coming up shortly (hospitals, gas stations, restaurants, telephones, hotels, etc.) Often, they have a blue background which differentiates them from other signs within the driver’s view. The objects stand out immensely because they are superimposed, white on the deep, background blue.
